திருமதி விஜயதேவி சூரியகுமார்
மீன் பாடும் தேன் நாடாகப் புகழ்பெற்ற மட்டக்களப்பு மாவட்டத்தைச் சேர்ந்த திருமதி விஜயதேவி சூரியகுமார் அவர்கள், 1988 ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆரம்பக் கல்வி ஆசிரியராக தனது ஆசிரியர் சேவையைத் தொடங்கினார். பின்னர் தனது திறமை மற்றும் கல்வித் தகுதியின் அடிப்படையில் கலைப்பட்டதாரி ஆசிரியராக பதவி உயர்வு பெற்றார்.
இவர் தனது சேவைக் காலத்தில் பல பாடசாலைகளில் பணியாற்றி, மாணவர்களின் கல்வி மற்றும் ஒழுக்க வளர்ச்சிக்காக அர்ப்பணிப்புடன் செயல்பட்டுள்ளார். குறிப்பாக மாணவர்களின் திறமைகளை வெளிக்கொணரும் வகையில் தமிழ் திறன் போட்டிகள், கட்டுரை போட்டிகள், பேச்சுப் போட்டிகள், நாடகம், கவிதை, கூத்து போன்ற பல்வேறு கலை மற்றும் இலக்கிய நிகழ்வுகளுக்காக மாணவர்களைத் தயார் செய்து ஊக்கமளித்துள்ளார். இவ்வாறு தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட மாணவர்கள் பாடசாலை, மாகாணம் மற்றும் மாவட்ட மட்டங்களில் நடைபெறும் போட்டிகளில் பங்கேற்று வெற்றி பெற வழிநடத்தப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.
மேலும் பாடசாலைகளில் வருடாந்தம் நடைபெறும் பரிசளிப்பு விழா, கலைக்கலாச்சார நிகழ்வுகள், விளையாட்டுப் போட்டிகள், கல்விச்சுற்றுலா, சாரணர் இயக்கம் போன்ற பல்வேறு நிகழ்வுகளில் மாணவர்களைச் செயல்படச் செய்து அவர்களின் முழுமையான வளர்ச்சிக்காக பாடுபட்டுள்ளார்.
மாணவர்கள் கல்வியில் சிறந்து விளங்குவதற்காக மேலதிக வகுப்புகளையும் நடத்தி, பரீட்சைகளில் சிறந்த பெறுபேறுகளைப் பெற வழிகாட்டியுள்ளார். தமிழ் திறன் போட்டிகளில் நடுவராகவும் பணியாற்றியுள்ள இவர், பல கல்வி மற்றும் பயிற்சி பட்டறைகளிலும் கலந்து கொண்டு தனது அறிவையும் அனுபவத்தையும் விருத்தி செய்துள்ளார்.
மேலும் கா.பொ.த. சாதாரண தரம் மற்றும் உயர்தர பரிட்சைகளின் போது தேர்வுநராகக் கடமையாற்றியதுடன், வினாத்தாள்கள் திருத்தும் பணியிலும் பங்காற்றியுள்ளார். இவ்வாறு இலங்கையில் சுமார் 20 ஆண்டுகள் அர்ப்பணிப்புடன் தனது ஆசிரியர் சேவையை வழங்கி கல்வித்துறைக்கு பெருமை சேர்த்துள்ளார்.
இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து, ஐக்கிய இராச்சியத்தில் செயல்படும் தமிழர் கல்வி மேம்பாட்டு பேரவையின் கீழ் இயங்கும் சறே தமிழ் கல்விக்கூடத்தில் 2008 ஆம் ஆண்டு தொடக்கம் இன்று வரை தமிழ் மொழி ஆசிரியராக பணியாற்றி, இளம் தலைமுறைக்கு தமிழ் மொழியும் பண்பாடும் கற்பித்து வருகிறார்.
Mrs. Vijayadevi Suriyakumar
Mrs. Vijayadevi Suriyakumar, who hails from the Batticaloa District, famously known as the “Land where fish sing and honey flows,” began her teaching career in 1988 as a primary school teacher. Later, in recognition of her ability and educational qualifications, she was promoted to the position of Graduate Teacher.
During her years of service, she worked in several schools and served with dedication towards the academic and moral development of her students. She played an important role in nurturing students’ talents by preparing and encouraging them to participate in various Tamil language and cultural competitions such as Tamil proficiency competitions, essay competitions, speech competitions, drama, poetry, and traditional Koothu performances. Under her guidance, many students participated and achieved success at school, zonal, and district level competitions.
She was also actively involved in organising and supporting many annual school events such as prize-giving ceremonies, cultural programmes, sports meets, educational tours, and the Scout movement, encouraging students to take part in these activities for their overall development.
In addition, she conducted extra classes to support students academically and guided them to achieve excellent results in examinations. She has also served as a judge in Tamil language competitions and has participated in numerous educational training workshops to further enhance her knowledge and professional experience.
Furthermore, she served as an examiner during the G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level examinations, and also contributed to the marking of examination papers. Through these contributions, she proudly served the field of education in Sri Lanka for nearly 20 years.
Following this, she continued her service in the United Kingdom. Since 2008, she has been working as a Tamil language teacher at the Surrey Tamil School, operating under the Tamil Education Development Council (UK). Through this role, she continues to teach the Tamil language and culture to the younger generation.
