Cambridge Tamil Class (GCSE OL) 

சறே தமிழ் பாடசாலையில் Cambridge பாடத்திட்டத்தின் கீழ் GCSE வகுப்புக்கள் கடந்த 10 வருடங்களுக்கு மேலாக வெற்றிகரமாக நடைபெற்று வருகின்றன.  இங்கு பயின்ற மாணவ, மாணவியர் Cambridge GCSE பரீட்சையில் நூறுவீத சித்தியினை எய்திவருவது இப்பாடசாலையில் பயிலும் மாணவர்களின் திறமைகளுக்கு ஒரு நற்சான்றாக அமைகிறது. கற்றல் மாத்திரமன்றி, Cambridge GCSE மாணவர்கள் பேச்சு மற்றும் நாடகத் துறைகளிலும் மிகவும் சிறப்பான முறையில் தமது பங்களிப்பை ஆற்றி வருகின்றனர். குறிப்பாகத் தமிழ் இலக்கியக் காவியங்களில் இருந்து முக்கிய பாகங்கள் தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டு மாணவ மாணவியர் துல்லியமாக மெருகூட்டிப் பயிற்றுவிக்கப்பட்டு மேடையேற்றப்படுகின்றனர். இந்த நாடகங்கள் பாடசாலை மட்டத்திலான நாடகப் போட்டிகளில் பங்கேற்று பரிசில்களையும் வென்றுள்ளமை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. வாராந்தம் காலை நேர பாடசாலை ஒன்று கூடலின்போது Cambridge GCSE வகுப்பு மாணாக்கர் திருக்குறள் ஒன்றைப் படித்து அதன் பொழிப்பினையும்
அங்கே கூறிவருவதனை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். மாணாக்கரிடையே இருக்கக்கூடிய மேடைக்கூச்சத்தினை இல்லாமற்செய்யவும், மொழியாற்றலில் தன்னம்பிக்கையினை வெளிப்படுத்தும் நோக்குடனும் சறே தமிழ் பாடசாலை ‘மாணவர் அரங்கம்’ என்னும் ஒரு புதிய முயற்சியை அண்மையில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது.  இதில் Cambridge GCSE மாணாக்கர்கள் பல்வேறு துறைசாந்தோரை சிறப்பாக செவ்விகாணுகின்றனர். இச்செவ்விகளின் காணொளிகளை சமூக வலைத்தளங்களில் நீஙகள் காணலாம்.

சறே தமிழ் பாடசாலையில் Cambridge GCSE வகுப்புக்களை நடத்தும் ஆசிரியர் திருமதி சியாமளா தேவி கருணாகரன் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.  மிகவும் ஆர்வத்துடனும், அர்ப்பணிப்புடனும் கல்வி பயில்விக்கும் இவர், கல்வி கற்பித்தலை சுவாரசியமானதாகக் கையாண்டு வருகிறார்.  சியாமளா ஆசிரியை சுமார் 13 வருடங்களுக்கும் மேலாக இலங்கை  தலைநகர் கொழும்பில், அச்சு ஊடகத்துறையில் ஒரு ஊடகவியலாளராகப் பணிபுரிந்துள்ளார்.
இவர் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் நியூஸ்பேப்பர் நிறுவனத்தின் வக்ீகென்ட் எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் பத்திரிகையின் செய்தியாளராகவும் பின் லேக் ஹவுஸ் நிறுவனத்தில் டெய்லி நியூஸ் பத்திரிகையின் துணை ஆசிரியராகப் பணிபுரிந்தவர். அத்துடன் இவர் இலங்கை பத்திரிகை ஸ்தாபனத்தின் பகுதிநேர ஊடக விரிவுரையாளராகவும் கடமையாற்றினார். பத்திரிகைத் துறையில் மிகவும் பிரபலமான, அனுபவமிக்க பத்திரிகை ஆசிரியர்களிடம் பயிற்சி பெற்ற இவர், அதன்  மூலம் தான் பெற்றுக் கொண்ட மொழித்திறன், அனுபவம் போன்றவற்றை தனக்குக் கிடைத்த வரப்பிரசாதமாகக் கருதுகின்றார். இவர் பிரித்தானியாவில் தனியார் சட்ட நிறுவனம் ஒன்றில் சட்ட செயலாளராக பணிபுரிகின்றார்.

Cambridge GCSE lessons

Surrey Tamil School (STS) has been successfully conducting Cambridge GCSE Tamil lessons for the past 10 years with a 100 per cent pass rate. Over the years the number  of students who take the exams has remarkably increased and the school is able to cater to the demands of these students and their parents and guide them accordingly towards the examination. The GCSE students have equally expressed their utmost excellence in Tamil speech and drama to a level where they had participated at competitions and secured prizes. STS takes pride in introducing the Cambridge GCSE students to moral stories in Tamil Epics and literature. They are trained to perform those stories in drama forms on stage, allowing them to showcase their acting and speech skills with no stagefear.  STS holds an assembly every week in which different classes present a brief performance prepared by their class teachers. Cambridge GCSE students initiate these assembly sessions every week with a thirukkural followed by its meaning and its translation in English.  STS has also introduced another event for Cambridge GCSE students which is called the ‘Manavar Arangam’. Students are given an opportunity to interview people/students of different backgrounds and/or skills. This serves as a fine opportunity for the students to exhibit their expertise in Tamil language and speech.

Cambridge GCSE lessons are conducted by STS teacher Shyamala Devi Karunakharan for the past 10 years. Shyamala teacher has been a journalist in Sri Lanka in the print media for nearly 13 years. She worked as reporter at The Weekend Express newspaper of Express Newspapers Ceylon Limited for five years and subsequently joined the Ceylon Daily News of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (Lake House) as a Sub-Editor. She has also been a part time lecturer at the Sri Lanka Press Institute (SLPI) during her career in Sri Lanka. She was trained under the guidance and expert proficiency of many senior and experienced journalists in the media field. She greatly values and cherishes the efficiency and knowledge she has thus gained and these experiences in journalism no doubt contribute towards her Tamil teaching career at STS.  Shyamala teacher currently works as a legal secretary in a leading Solicitor firm in
Surrey.
